Lighting a Living Heritage: LiGHT SKY at the World Nomad Games 2026
On 31 August 2026, Bishkek Arena became the stage for the opening ceremony of the VI World Nomad Games.
For Kyrgyzstan, the occasion carried a special significance. The first World Nomad Games were held here in 2014, and twelve years later, the Games returned to the country where they began. Bringing together representatives from 106 countries, the ceremony placed the heritage of the Kyrgyz people and the traditions of the nomadic world at the heart of an international celebration.
Through dance, music, horses and traditional equestrian performances, generations of cultural heritage came alive on stage. Modern LED screens, video mapping, lasers, fire and other visual effects expanded the story into a large-scale contemporary production.
A Stage for Heritage, Built at Scale
The ceremony transformed Bishkek Arena into a vast performance environment. The main stage was framed by a large scenic mountain backdrop, while spectator stands wrapped around three sides of the venue beneath its curved overhead structure.
A total of 1,329 LiGHT SKY fixtures were integrated into the lighting system, building layers of color, coverage, beams and visual effects throughout the venue.
At ground level, AQUAPEARL PRO formed the main wash array around the performance area, providing broad and powerful color across the stage. In front of the scenic mountain structure, AQUAPEARL MINI added dynamic color and effects, creating another visual layer close to the performance space. Behind it, beam fixtures added aerial effects, with sharp beams and prism visuals enhancing the space between the scenic elements and screen.
Across the upper levels and spectator areas, TX1940 ZOOM provided broad and flexible wash coverage, while F230 II and MINI LUNAR created powerful beam and prism effects to add depth and movement across the arena. The SUPER SCOPE series brought versatile beam, spot, wash and profile functions for shaping and dynamic effects, with SUPER SCOPE MAX suspended above the spectator stands as part of the upper lighting system.
PL1215 further extended color and illumination into the wider venue environment.
Together, these layers of light connected the performance floor, scenic elements and surrounding arena into a cohesive visual environment, supporting everything from large-scale aerial effects to the details of the live performances.
From One Generation to the Next
Beyond the spectacle of the ceremony was something that cannot be created by technology alone: a culture carried forward through generations, and a spirit shaped by movement, resilience, connection and respect for tradition.
The World Nomad Games bring that spirit into the present, creating a place where heritage is not simply remembered, but experienced, shared and given new expression.
