What Factors Impact the Brightness of Lights

The brightness of the light source is fundamental, even is at the same or similar power, laser is brighter than lamp , and lamp is brighter than LED, such as the lights from LIGHTSKY, SHARK LASER (260w moving laser beam) is brighter than WHALE BEAM (300W discharge moving beam ),both of them are waterproof moving head light.

So what factors impact the brightness of lights? We can analyse it from 2 side, objective brightness and relative brightness.

1.Optical system
On one side, Optical system. Including the power, CMY,  color wheel , rotation GOBO wheel, High CRI filter and lens. The brightness will be reduced after passing these accessories. So most people will check brightness by the output lumen or illumination diagram.

(illumination diagram of SUPER SHARK BEAM )

2. Ambient light

On the Other side, the ambient light will impact the “brightness”, that is relative brightness. There will be a higher request about the power and output lumen of lights, even it needs a smoke machine for auxiliary effect, when your stage event is held in the bright room,or you use a bright led screen.

The reference data for the banquet hall lighting is 10-30 lux, The 100% night is 0.001-0.002lux. Less lux environment, the effects of lights are more obvious .For example, LIGHTSKY ‘S LED moving BSWP, 1200W SUPER SCOPE MAX, 880W SUPER SCOPE PLUS and 450W SUPER SCOPE PRO, this 3 model can satisfy most environments.

To compare the lights between 2 lights, it is better to control them  in the same light source, environment and type. The result will be more accurate. In a word, the objective brightness is impacted by the lights’ design and the spare parts, the relative brightness is impacted by the influences from using environment.
